Due to low adhesion values, wheel slip occurs between the wheel and rail during braking in rail vehicles. Based on its many years of experience in the application of microelectronics in rail vehicles, KES has developed the AS20 wheel slide protection family as a solution. With the help of KES wheel slide protection electronics, the available friction value can be optimally utilised and the blocking of the wheels and the associated occurrence of wheel flats can be prevented.
Wheel slide protection systems from KES also offer advantages through optional functional extensions such as anti-skid protection and an improved diagnosis as well as the possibility of connection to a vehicle bus.
All WSP systems have a self-diagnosis, as well as monitored potential-free inputs and outputs and a safety circuit for the dump valves.
Devices in the AS20 wheel slide protection family are available in different designs:

Wheel slide protection system in 19’ rack version AS20R
The AS20R wheel slide protection device is designed for installation in a 19’ rack. The design allows the device to be flexibly adapted to the system environment. Applications with up to 8 axles per car can be implemented with one device. Extended monitoring functions such as derailment detection and monitoring of axle bearing temperatures and brake cylinder pressures are optionally available. The device also has an interface for diagnostic functions.
Compact wheel slide protection system AS20C
The AS20C wheel slide protection device was developed for installation in confined spaces. It is installed in a compact metal housing. The device has a USB interface for diagnostic functions. In addition to the standard version, the AS20C is also available as a small version weighing just 2 kg. This offers an even more compact solution for selective control of up to 4 axles.

AS20F wheel slide protection system for freight wagons
The AS20F wheel slide protection device was designed for use in extreme environmental conditions in freight cars. It also allows for the optional addition of vehicle localisation using GPS with data transmission via GSM. Since freight cars do not have an external power supply, the power supply for AS20F systems is provided by an axle generator and backup batteries.
