Compact Brake Units

Compact Brake Units

All compact brake units from KES GmbH & Co. KG are equipped with an automatic wear adjustment.

In addition to the conventional compact brake unit, which is based on the proven mechanical function, the innovative intelligent and electric compact brake units developed KES GmbH & Co. KG offer numerous economic and technological advantages.

In conventional compact brake units, pneumatic brake pressures are transmitted to the brake units to generate the brake pad force. However, there is no feedback to the brake control system about the actually applied brake pad force.

The intelligent and electric compact brake units provide solutions that increase safety by feeding back the brake pad force to the brake control system, thus creating a closed information loop. The data collected can be forwarded to the vehicle diagnostics system via the brake control system. In addition to the brake pad force, information on pad wear is also transmitted and made available to the vehicle maintenance system (predictive maintenance). Devices in the KES CBU 300 disc brake family are available in different variants:

Mechanical compact brake unit (mCBU 300)
Intelligent compact brake unit (iCBU 300)
Electric compact brake unit (eCBU 300)

Mechanical compact brake unit (mCBU 300)

The KES mCBU 300 mechanical compact brake unit comprises a brake cylinder with pneumatic force generation and the brake calliper. Wear adjustment is performed mechanically via springs. The brake calliper is opened mechanically to change the brake pads.

The mechanical compact brake unit offers the following features:

Pneumatic force generation
Mechanical wear adjustment
Optionally with spring brake for the parking brake
Temperature range from -40°C to +100°C

Intelligent compact brake unit (iCBU 300)

The intelligent compact brake unit KES iCBU 300 includes a brake cylinder with pneumatic force generation and the brake calliper. The wear adjustment is implemented by an electric motor. To change the brake pads, the brake calliper is opened at the push of a button. Sensors are also installed to monitor the condition of the brake unit. The intelligent compact brake unit offers the following features:
