Wheel-Slide Protection System with Monitoring Function ASM 20

The wheel-slide protection device SWKP ASM 20 is an extended version of the AS 20 R.

In order to achieve a more cost-efficient use of the wheel-slide protection system, the devices can be equipped with an additional monitoring function.

As the existing wheel-slide protection system and its components are used, the costs of an additional electronic device can be saved.

ASM 20 with Integrated Derailing Monitoring

The wheel-slide protection system is equipped with a function for the monitoring of derailing.

For this purpose, specific sensors are installed in the standard housing of the sensor of the IG 20 family. These are able to measure the acceleration of the axle and to transmit this information to the wheel-slide protection electronic.

If a critical value is exceeded the wheel-slide protection device transmits the corresponding signal to the diagnostic system in the vehicle or activates the dump valve installed in the brake pipe for this specific purpose.

ASM 20 with Integrated Monitoring of the Axle Box Temperature

The wheel-slide protection system is equipped with a function for monitoring the axle box temperature.

For this purpose, specific sensors are installed in the standard housing of the sensor of the IG 20 family. These are able to constantly measure the temperature in the axle box region and to transmit this information to the wheel-slide protection electronic.

If a critical value is exceeded the wheel-slide protection device transmits the corresponding signal to the diagnostic system in the vehicle.

ASM 20 as Local Monitoring System

The wheel-slide protection system is equipped with functions for monitoring derailing, axle box temperatures and brake cylinder pressure.

For this purpose, specific sensors are installed in the standard housing of the sensors of IG 20 family. These are able to measure the acceleration of the axle, the temperature in the axle box region and the respective pressure in the brake cylinder and to transmit these values to the wheel-slide protection electronic.

The monitoring of the pressure in the brake cylinder is realized by means of a specific sensor which transmits the pressure values via a three-pole connector to the wheel-slide protection electronic without the need for additional vehicle cabling. The measured data are analysed by the electronic and are transmitted to the diagnostic system of the vehicle, in case that a critical value is attained.

A wheel-slide protection systems consists of the following components:

  • wheel-slide protection electronic ASM 20
  • speed sensor
  • dump valve
  • pressure switch
  • phonic wheel
  • system components
